Spring Fling

Ran the Spring Fling 15k in Plainfield today. It was cool with some brisk winds. Finished 23rd overall and 6th in my age group with a new PR of 1:03:21. Lot’s of fast old guys at this race. This race wasn’t on my original schedule, but next weekend I’m going to Kentucky to watch some softball games so I won’t be able to run the Sam Costa Half Marathon. My niece is on the Missouri S&T team, The Miners. They are playing at Bellarmine on Saturday and Northern Kentucky on Sunday.

Coldest, Snowiest DINO Race Ever

The first race of the 2008 Dino Series Trail Runs was held yesterday at Eagle Creek. According to the series organizer, Brian Holzhausen, it was the coldest, snowiest DINO race ever. The temperature was around 20° at the start of the 15k and the trails were covered with an inch or two of snow. Given the snow and freezing temperature, I wasn’t expecting much mud. Wrong. Mud was plentiful. The 15k consisted of three laps of a 5k course. Times seemed a little slow so I’m thinking it may have been a bit more than 5k or perhaps is was just the mud and snow that slowed everyone down. I was expecting to finish in under 1:10. That didn’t happen; however, my time of 1:16:19 was good enough for 2nd in the 45-49 age group and 24th overall. My best finish to date in a Dino Series race.
